holding space
There are many ways we, as humans, can “hold space” for each other and for ourselves. One meaning is to be fully present, without judgment, for someone else. Another is to walk with someone on their journey, without trying to fix their problems. Holding space for ourselves can be about honoring our feelings and giving them voice and room to be what they need to be. A meaning that is very important in today’s world, and our divided society, is respecting other people’s differences and knowing that their experiences may lead them to make choices that we ourselves would not make.
Artists hold space for the world around us. We do this by inviting others to view our created works and then allowing them the space to explore their feelings and thoughts about what the art evokes. Sometimes there is a connection, and sometimes not, and both responses are perfectly fine. Through our art, we can help others look at the world differently than they may be used to, which is a gift to all of us. We hope you feel our efforts to hold space for you with our work.
